Success at Impact Excellence Awards

The Lava Group are delighted to win a research award at Ulster University’s second annual Impact Excellence Awards.  Leading organisations across a wide range of sectors were recognised for their commitment to pioneering research and graduate employability.

Lava’s research collaboration with lead academic Dr. Joseph Rafferty, from the Northern Ireland Connected Health Innovation Centre (CHIC) received an award, in the Research Impact Computing, Engineering and Built Environment category.

Lava have been working in collaboration with researchers from Ulster University for several years.  A key project has been in area of connected health, with the creation of a monitoring solution, which utilises environmental sensing technology to help improve patient outcomes especially with those with ongoing health conditions, in particular Alzheimer’s Disease, Autism and sedentary lifestyles.

This recognition is a testament of the joining of skills from academia and business.  Our partnership with CHIC on this project has provided us with a valuable opportunity to produce an innovative solution that can make a real difference to the lives of both carers and patients.

The event, which took place at Titanic Belfast, recognised the University’s collaborations with partners in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, both locally and globally.  It celebrated the transformational impact the university’s students, graduates and research are having on societies and economies across the globe.
