Lava’s research collaboration with CHIC shortlisted in Impact Excellence Awards

Lava are thrilled to announce that our research collaboration with lead academic Dr. Joseph Rafferty, from the Northern Ireland Connected Health Innovation Centre (CHIC) has been shortlisted in the Impact Excellence Awards 2018, in the Research Impact Computing, Engineering and Built Environment category.

The Impact Excellence Awards, organised by Ulster University, seeks to award partners who collaborate with the University and who have delivered considerable impact which positively contributes to society as a whole. 

Lava have been working in collaboration with researchers from Ulster University over several years.  A key project has been in area of connected health, with the creation of a monitoring solution, which utilises environmental sensing technology to help improve patient outcomes especially with those with ongoing health conditions.

The solution monitors a range of multiple behaviours including agitation in autism sufferers, Alzheimer’s wandering, sedentary behaviour and fall detection.  Specifically, it combines innovative sensing technology, advanced computer vision algorithms, machine learning and big data processing. 

The award ceremony will take place on 3rd May in Titanic Belfast.
