Lava raise funds for local cancer charity

Last year The Lava Group had been working in partnership with Friends of the Cancer Centre as our “Charity of the Year”.  The company recently made a presented for £2,067 to Ana Wilkinson, Corporate Fundraising Manager from Friends of the Cancer Centre.

The Charity has a long and proud history of helping local cancer patients across Northern Ireland for over 30 years.  Based at the heart of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital, the charity funds lifesaving and life changing projects that make a real and lasting difference to the lives of thousands of local people affected by cancer.

The charity relies heavily on donations from the public and business communities in Northern Ireland to provide a range of vital lifesaving services.

 The money donated from the Lava Group could enable Friends of the Cancer Centre to provide a welcoming cuppa for 8,400 cancer patients and their families at the Cancer Centre while they are waiting for appointments or treatment.  Otherwise it could offer an hour of specialist nursing care for 80 people affected by cancer, which is a great gift to give to local families living with cancer ”, said Ana Wilkinson.

Throughout the year staff got involved in a number of fundraising activities including Easter fundraisers, Last Man Standing competitions and an 850m climb up Slieve Donard, Northern Ireland’s highest peak.  Our CEO saddled up to help turn Northern Ireland pink by taking part in the Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia!

Lava’s “Charity of the Year” collaboration is part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy. Each year staff are given the chance to nominate the charities close to their heart and the list is put to a company-wide vote.  Friends of the Cancer Centre was chosen by staff as the Charity of the Year for 2017.
